The 8th International Conference on Advanced Applied Raman Spectroscopy will feature presentations from world-leading Raman experts and researchers using the technique across varied applications within life science, materials science, and energy and environmental analysis. It will bring together the world’s Raman community to share, learn and discuss how Raman spectroscopy is being applied to today’s problems and pioneering tomorrow’s capabilities. RamanFest 2020 is organized and sponsored by HORIBA Scientific, in association with the Advanced Power and Energy Program at UCI Samueli School of Engineering.

Co-chairs include:

Iryna Zenyuk, Assistant Professor - Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, as well as Associate Director of the National Fuel Cell Research Center at UCI.

Vince McDonell, Director - UCICL ( UCI Combustion Laboratory)

Andrew Whitley, Vice President of Sales and Business Development at HORIBA Scientific

Li Yan, Raman Product Line Manager at HORIBA Scientific

The conference will be held in the Crystal Cove auditorium on the UCI campus.

The conference will cover critical topics for today. These include: Life Science, Advanced Materials Science, Energy and Environmental Analysis. The first, life sciences, will showcase talks on micro-biology and methods for single cell analysis, SERS methodologies, tissue imaging, disease diagnostics, pharmaceutical characterization, and micro-plastics and their environmental effect.  The second presents studies of advanced materials and advanced analytical techniques, including carbon materials (e.g., graphene, nanotubes, boron-doped diamond), catalysis, novel 2D materials, and the application of TERS (tip enhanced Raman spectroscopy).

A gala dinner will bring together speakers, delegates and sponsors for networking and relaxation – a talk will be given on the wider use of Raman spectroscopy to shed light on ancient art and their materials, and the health implications of such materials to the artists. It will be held at the Harborside Restaurant and Grand Ballroom in Newport Beach, CA. Tickets must be purchased with your RamanFest registration.

The third annual International Sharp Meets Bright symposium organized by

HORIBA Scientific and hosted by the University of California Irvine, is dedicated

to Scanning Probe Microscopy integrated with Optical Spectroscopy instrumentation
and methodology. It will be held on Wednesday, July 1st, after RamanFest.

Special rate offered when joining both events. Check website for pricing.

University of California, Irvine

The University of California, Irvine is a public research university located in Irvine, California. It is one of the 10 campuses in the University of California system. UC Irvine offers 87 undergraduate degrees and 129 graduate and professional degrees. Founded in 1965, UCI is the youngest member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. The campus has produced three Nobel laureates and is known for its academic achievement, premier research, innovation and anteater mascot. Led by Chancellor Howard Gillman, UCI has more than 36,000 students and offers 222 degree programs. It’s located in one of the world’s safest and most economically vibrant communities and is Orange County’s second-largest employer, contributing $5 billion annually to the local economy.

Henry Samueli School of Engineering

RamanFest 2020 will be held in conjunction with the Henry Samueli School of Engineering. Founded as the School of Engineering in 1965, it was renamed the Henry Samueli School of Engineering after the philanthropist and co-founder, chairman and chief technical officer of Broadcom Inc.

The school includes six academic departments: biomedical engineering; chemical & bimolecular engineering; civil & environmental engineering; electrical engineering & computer science; materials science & engineering; and mechanical & aerospace engineering.Leaders in their disciplines, the school's 139 faculty members have achieved worldwide recognition for their pioneering research and dedicated teaching. Nearly a third are fellows in professional societies, and 14 are members of the National Academy of Engineering. The school has eight endowed chairs, eight Distinguished Professors and four Chancellor's Professors.
